OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: DEADLINE FOR SEASON 1 - OCTOBER 1st, 2010

The inaugural season of THE BAT SHAT online poetry journal is set to be unveiled in all its freakish glory on October 31st, 2010.

Poems can be sent within the body of an email or as a .doc file attachment. Poems sent without rich text settings will appear as they come. There will be no proof sent to creator before publication. Please include your name in the subject line and a short bio in the body of the email.

The Bat Shat is a seasonal online poetry journal dedicated to publishing mineral rich poetry that has been tainted with just a hint of rust, tarnish or oxidation. Shiny new poems will also be considered (and perhaps mocked as fancy-pants or bourgie behind closed doors, but in the end, considered nonetheless). Under-edited, unrefined and unfinished poems are the bat's meow.

First season will be edited by Enri Zoltz. Enri Zoltz, otherwise known as the RAIL POET, has published over 500 poems on his own blog, www.railroadpoetry.blogspot.com, and has been published in other journals under several assumed names. Next season's guest editor: J.C. Martinez.

OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS -- ISSUE 4

Please send 3 - 5 poems, prose, or flash fiction works (of no more than 1000 words each in length) to thebatshat@gmail.com to be considered for publication in our third issue. Please include your name in the subject line and a short bio in the body of your email.

The Bat Shat is looking for prose, poems, and flash fiction pieces that examine the human condition and explain, describe or discuss how humans physically interact with or relate to other objects.

Prose and poems of any length will be considered. However, anything over one thousand words teeters on the edge of acceptability. Flash fiction should also play by these rules. Longer pieces will be considered, so long as we can get through them. Previously published poems and simultaneously published works are fine by us; so long as you send us the names of the publications that your work has appeared in, or is appearing in, and include the dates of publication. The Bat Shat will retain non-exclusive electronic and print rights as well as Archive Rights. This means that work that has appeared online at thebatshat.us or in present and future publications of The Bat Shat journal in print shall be considered shared works (jointly sharing the right to publish between author and publisher). Author grants thebatshat.us and The Bat Shat journal the right to republish all accepted submissions in perpetuity so long as they credit the author (attribution) and any other publication that may have published the works first. If thebatshat.us or The Bat Shat journal was the first to publish a specific piece or body of work, we expect you to credit us with this acknowledgment as well. ALL COPYRIGHTS REMAIN WITH AUTHOR. We do not want to steal your work, only protect your work from other obscure publishing rules that infringe on your freedoms as a writer. Perpetual rights are generally assumed since this will forever be available in the archives and reprints unless one-time rights are requested by the author in writing. This can be asked at any time and we will graciously remove your work from the archives; it will only remain as a charred and barren cache for a while until the internet spiders chew through the carcass and the once gooey bits become inter-dust. Anything printed will of course remain in print. Poems, prose and flash fiction can be sent within the body of an email or as a .doc file attachment. By submitting your work for review and possible publication, we ask that you agree to these statements.
